It’s time I finally shared more about my new job and how it all came about!! I’ve been on cloud 9 and been going, going, going, so I’m just now getting around to sharing!!
So as I shared in this post, I was in a very bad place at the end of last year and start of this year. What I thought was just seasonal depression turned out to be a lot more (but that’s a story for another day).
I was talking to my husband about how lonely I was and how I needed a change. I was stuck in a rut and had to get out. He casually mentioned that maybe I should consider getting a job outside of the house where I could have a more stable routine and get to be around adults. I said I’d think about it but really didn’t want to work for anyone else because I’ve been burned bad in the past.
But being a solopreneur is so lonely. Have a problem? It’s on you. Have an idea? Talk to yourself. Have something to celebrate? Well there’s no one to celebrate with. Yes I love owning my own business and I love my clients, but I am only one person and can only handle so much. So there wasn’t any room for growth unless I started hiring and I didn’t feel ready to do that.
So I thought maybe I’d consider what my husband said about a job…but I wasn’t super serious about it and didn’t think anything would come of it.
Well then about 2 days later, I randomly got a message request on Instagram. I had never heard of Lauren Ashtyn or The Lauren Ashtyn Collection before but I was very impressed when I went to check them out.
Ashtyn said she was hiring for a content creator for her company and to let her know if I was interested.
Was I? I didn’t know anything about it or the job and I almost just deleted the message. But then I remembered my husband saying that it might be good for me to have a routine and get out of the house and be around people. I didn’t think this was a coincidence that just 2 days later I received this message. So I messaged her back and asked her to tell me a little more about it.
I ended up scheduling an interview for later that week. Immediately when I walked in to the interview, I felt like I was supposed to be there. I can’t explain it any other way. When I sat down with Ashtyn and her husband to do the interview, it was like I was talking with old friends. They were so down to earth and so welcoming. I couldn’t believe they were offering me this position. It seemed too good to be true! It’s a job in social media—which I love; it’s in the beauty industry—which I love; it’s with people who are amazing—which just sealed the deal for me.
They told me to take a few days and think about it and get back to them if I wanted to take the position. Well when I was driving home and thinking about everything, I was confident that this was the right move for me. I don’t know if you believe in fate, but this sure was as close to fate as you can get.
It took me a couple weeks before I could start because of snow storms and sickness but I have officially been working for The Lauren Ashtyn Collection for about 3 weeks now, and I absolutely love it! I hate admitting this, but my husband was right!! (Just don’t tell him I said that!!)
So what is The Lauren Ashtyn Collection? In short, they are a luxury hair piece company. They make wigs, hair toppers and extensions that all clip in (less damaging to your hair). The owner hand drew on paper exactly what she wanted her pieces to look like and has them all tied by hand using real human hair. They are very high quality and women all over the world with hair loss are finally finding a solution.
Their headquarters is based out of Spartanburg, SC but they ship worldwide and they also do pop up shops all over the country! The first one I’m going on is this weekend in Miami! This is where I will video and take pictures till my fingers fall off and then use them on all the social media platforms!
So what does my job entail day to day? My official title is the Marketing & Social Media Director. This means I handle all things Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, Twitter, etc, etc! But before you can post anything on these platforms, you have to shoot the content (aka take videos and pictures). So that is the main portion of my job, and then I edit the content and post to all the channels! I will also help with the website if and when that is needed!
Getting to do what I love and help create a brand identity for an amazing company like this is a dream come true. Getting paid for it is just unreal!! I’ve never gotten the opportunity to work with a business of this size and with an audience this large scale. It is honestly still surreal to me that I am getting to do this! I am so thankful to Ashtyn and Christopher for trusting me with such an important aspect of their business and I hope to live up to their expectations!
Now on to a couple questions I’ve been getting about the job:
What about your website design?
I will still do websites for clients! I just won’t be able to take on as many clients at one time as I could before. There was a point last year where I had 8 clients at once I was working on a website for! At this point, I think I can only take on 1-2 at a time just because this new job is full time so I will be very busy with it!
What about Rustic Llama?
I am not going to be able to work in the store anymore since I am working full time at headquarters for Lauren Ashtyn, but I am still always here if they ever need help with graphics or website stuff or content! I am still an affiliate and will always support them! The owners are my good friends and they were very happy for me when I got this new job!
What about your podcast?
Unfortunately, Lexi and I do not have the spare time we had when we started The Social Sisterhood. We loved doing it and we wish we could continue, but we just don’t have the time. I was running all of our social media channels, editing the recordings, publishing the episodes, creating the graphics, etc all on my own. If we could’ve paid someone to do all that for us, then we could just record every now and then! But we both agreed that it was fun while it lasted, but for right now, there’s just not room in our schedule.
Are you driving to Spartanburg every day?
I am driving to Spartanburg Tuesday-Friday and I work from home on Mondays. The drive is about 50 minutes. Yes I know it’s long, but it’s worth it to me! When we go on our trips, we fly out on Fridays and come back on Mondays.
What about your kids?
My oldest is in 2nd grade so she goes to school all day and then goes to an after school program. My husband picks her up on his way home from work. My younger two are in a preschool from 9am-1pm. I drop them off at 9am and then head straight to work. They are picked up by a combination of my parents, my in-laws and a babysitter. My husband gets home at 4:45 so he can then relieve whoever is watching them.
I think I answered every possible question I could think of or that I have been asked! If you have more questions, drop a comment or message me on Instagram! I’m an open book so don’t be shy!
This year is going to be GOOD. Here’s to new beginnings!
