What to do after gaining the “Quarantine 15”?

This post is sponsored by “Always Eat After 7 PM”. The opinions expressed below are my own.

If you know me, or have been following along with me, you know that healthy foods are just not my go to. I am drawn to carbs and sweets, unfortunately for my waistline. I have tried many different diets and most of them I basically have to starve myself to see any results. I am hungry and miserable all the time. I’ve always played into the diet “myths” about making sure to eat breakfast because it’s the “most important meal of the day” and never eating late at night before bed.

Then I heard about Joel Marion’s new book, Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight, and I was intrigued. Bestselling author, Joel Marion, is a fitness expert and nutritionist debunking the myths underlying traditional dieting and offers a simple, highly effective weight loss program. The subtitle has the words, “rule-breaking”. Hey, I’m always down to break some rules! Especially if it means not starving myself and still losing weight.

If you read my goals for 2020, you know one of them was to work out more, eat healthier, and get off this extra weight that I haven’t been able to get rid of since having Camille last July. Well, then our world turned upside down with the threat of the coronavirus. The gym I joined had to close. My kids were all out of school for the foreseeable future. I had very little time to myself to work out or plan and cook healthy meals. Instead of losing weight, I was gaining weight being stuck in the house. I think a lot of you can relate! I was so excited to get this book and find out about these rules I could break and still burn fat!

In the first chapter, Marion identifies and debunks four dieting myths. Not only does Marion tell you these are not true, but he backs his claims with science. Right up front, he wants you to know that this isn’t just some fluff that he has thrown together, but real, proven facts that have been tested.

Marion begins the first chapter, “Before we get into the specifics of the diet, it’s critical that you understand why you’re doing what you’re doing, starting with the science that supports late-night eating for faster weight loss and explains why it is a much more effective solution for fat burning compared to other programs.” Based on surprising science, Always Eat After 7 PM debunks popular diet myths and offers an easy-to-follow diet that accelerates fat-burning and allows you to indulge in your most intense food cravings: Eating the majority of your calories at night.

Another great thing about this book is the pages and pages of recipes for you to try. So you can’t use the excuse, “I don’t know what to cook!” I encourage you to get this book for yourself and follow along with Marion’s plan. Let’s see how well this works together!

Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion is now available to purchase. Learn more about the book and how to purchase here.

You can also hear from the author himself by watching this video.

Please let me know if you have any questions and of course let me know if you’re going to be following this program too!

    MY SMOOTHIE RECIPE

    *This post contains affiliate links*

I used to make smoothies all the time before I became a mom + life drastically changed!! But recently I have been trying to find easy ways I can sneak some good nutrition in my diet! So I bought a Magic Bullet + it makes it SO easy!

The great thing about the Magic Bullet is you can stop blending, easily pick up the container + mix it up + then start again. So if any pieces are being stubborn + not getting down to the bottom, you can shake it up real quick + keep going. It makes just enough for one smoothie + it’s a very easy clean up. You can also use the container that it blends in to drink out of. So it’s even less dishes to clean. It comes with three different cups + lids.

But enough about the blender, here’s the recipe!!

Seems super simple, right? It is! I cut up strawberries + bananas + place them on wax paper on a rack or baking sheet + put it in the freezer. This way the strawberries + bananas are frozen + act as the ice for the smoothie. Then you don’t have to use ice which waters down the drink. I do add a little bit of water which just helps make it thin enough to drink. But using the frozen strawberries + bananas as the ice cubes allows for a creamier smoothie. I also add the baby spinach to get some vegetables in! You really can’t taste them at all in my opinion! + I am pretty picky about tastes!

To make it as simple + quick as possible, I’ve started buying frozen strawberries from the freezer section so I don’t have to freeze my own strawberries, but it’s probably best to use fresh ones if you have the time! With three kids, a dog + a husband, I am lacking for time!!

Let me know if you try this recipe + what you think! I would HIGHLY recommend the Magic Bullet! It makes it so easy! + it’s very compact + doesn’t take up a lot of room in your kitchen! Also, it’s only $40!!! + here is a tumbler that is similar to a YETI but only costs $10! While you’re at it, here is a 4 pack of reusable straws to go with it 😉

What is your favorite smoothie recipe?!? Let me know in the comments!

    HOW TO CLEAN YOUR RINGS

I’ll have to admit that this is super random. But I love the simple way that I was taught to clean my engagement + wedding rings + I love how it leaves them sparkling! So I thought I would share!

You only really need two things: dish soap + a soft bristle toothbrush!

    Crazy, right?!?

I almost didn’t believe it when the lady at the jewelry store told me. But I have done this for about 4 years now + it WORKS!

So all I do is put my ring in a little dish with lukewarm water + a dot of dish soap. I let it sit for about 5 minutes. Then I put some of the sudsy water on the toothbrush + scrub, scrub, scrub the rings. I get in between every little crack with the bristles. Once I’m done scrubbing, I rinse it with water + then dry it with a clean cloth. + that’s it!

See what I mean that it is so simple?!? I shared this on my Instagram story a few weeks ago + I turned into a highlight on my profile called “rings” so if you want to see the cleaning process in action, be sure to check it out on Instagram!

The picture below shows the exact items I use when cleaning my rings. Click on the picture to see some similar products I linked for you if you want to clean your rings this way.

    WE GOT A DOG!

Yes, you read that correctly. The woman with three kids, a husband + a house, gave in + got a dog. Why, you ask? I really have no clue.

I am not against dogs, not in any way. But with so much on my plate already, I have just been putting off getting a dog for a long time. My husband + my oldest daughter have been begging for one. Like down on their knees, sobbing, begging. I have held strong up until this point.

My husband has been particularly obsessive about it lately though. Every single day the week before his birthday, he would come home + say, “Well, I guess you didn’t go get me a dog today, huh?” He was reminding me every day of what the Humane Society’s hours were for the next day…it was a little psycho.

He had asked if we could get Chelsea, my oldest daughter, a dog for her birthday which is at the end of April. I told him no, we needed to wait at least until summer when he would be home more (he’s a teacher + gets summers off except for football practices because he’s also a coach).

Then on his birthday, I was just sitting there after breakfast with the two little ones + all of a sudden, I thought I should go get him a dog for his birthday + surprise him when he got home. I have no idea where this thought came from, maybe it was because he had been bugging me extra lately + I was just tired of it, I don’t know, but I got it in my head + I knew if I didn’t just go do it, I would talk myself out of it.

Soooo, I called my mother in law to see if she could come over early to watch the kids for me. I was so nervous on the way to the Humane Society. I really had no clue what I was getting myself into.

When I got there, I walked back to where the dogs were + almost every single one started barking + going crazy. I started to turn around + then I noticed there was a beautiful golden lab sitting there quietly + still + looking so, so sweet. I looked at the other ones, but I kept coming back to this one. I asked if I could take her out so they let me go outside on the porch with her. They took her leash off + she just kept her tail down + was very hesitant when I would reach out to pet her, but she would still let me do it. I could just see that she was terrified + had no trust for people, but she was so sweet.

Turns out, she had just given birth to eight puppies only three months before. She had some health issues that caused her to have to stay there a little longer until she was cleared to be adopted. Of course, all her puppies were adopted super fast + were no longer there. My heart broke for this sweet dog. So I just went for it, + I asked them what I needed to do to take her home with me.

So after I did all the adoption paperwork, I then went to pick Chelsea up who was at her grandma’s house. She had absolutely no idea that I had just adopted a dog! I got her reaction on video + it is priceless! Check it out here!

Chelsea talked the whole way home about how excited she was + what she wanted to name her. She finally decided on Bailey + was stuck on that. She wouldn’t consider any other name! When we got home, she wanted to be the one to hold her leash + walk her in to surprise Brad. So she did, but once Bailey saw how many people were in the house (Brad, his parents, Cooper + Camille), she didn’t want to go in. So she just crouched down on the stairs + Brad had to come to her + slowly pet her. Poor girl was terrified! Chelsea asked if we could name her Bailey, + Brad said, “Sure.” That night, Bailey hid in our downstairs bathroom + wouldn’t come out. We tried to give her food, water, treats, but she wouldn’t touch any of it.

We have had her for about 3 weeks now, + I wish I could say that she is super comfortable now + really likes us, butttttt that would be a lie! She is doing much better. She is eating + drinking now + will sometimes take treats. She is going to the bathroom outside. She doesn’t jump too bad when you get near her now! She even came up + licked my elbow yesterday, so we are getting somewhere!! Her favorite person, by far, is Camille. We don’t know if it’s just because she’s the littlest, or because she just had babies herself + misses them, but Bailey + Camille are two peas in a pod. It’s the cutest thing.

We really couldn’t have picked a better dog, though. She is so calm + so quiet (unlike everyone else in our household!). We have only heard her bark like two times! Her favorite thing to do is lay down (I feel her on that one!). She finds any comfy spot to get cozy in, whether that’s the corner of my closet, Chelsea’s bed, or a pile of Brad’s clothes on the floor! She is getting more used to us everyday + we are so thankful to have her as a part of our family. We got a good one!
